This post is a bit of a whinge really and not for any reason but it does my head in when marketers can’t think for themselves and steal other people’s ideas.

Tomorrow marks the opening of a new upmarket hotel in Franz Josef to be called Te Waonui Forest Retreat.  The thing is that there is already a Forest Retreat in Franz Josef – Rainforest Retreat.

Rainforest Retreat has been there for years and offers superb hotel facilities in uniquely named standalone accommodation such as Tree Huts and Tree Lodges.  What I do not understand is why Scenic Hotels could not think of something more inventive to name their hotel, or, is this just a case of the marketers being completely unable to think of anything clever themselves and trying to steal something that has been done so successfully.

After all we know that the general tourists are not going to remember Te Waionui and will therefore refer to the hotel as Forest Retreat.

For some reason this has got my goat.  It is not like Franz Josef is known internationally for it’s rainforest, but rather it’s namesake – the Franz Josef Glacier, so why not call it Glacier Retreat.  I just think this is poor form by Scenic Hotels.
