I am very late in Internet world reporting this campaign – it has even made it onto a mention on Rove! There has been an outcry in Australia over the backpacker in the wet t-shirt dancing at the World Shed in Cairns which has gleaned lots of media attention – plus the dog and pony show around Australia by leading Cairns operators. I just thought I would share the posters in PDF format for those that have as yet not seen the whole Tourism Tropical North Queensland backpacker campaign – Great Up Top, Fun Downunder.
Personally, I think it is excellent and great to see something that is a bit more risquee than the stock standard advertising that regional tourism offices roll out. I wonder what Sean Cummins of Cummins Nitro thinks of this one.
I am also sharing this now, because this week Tourism New Zealand are expected to launch a backpacker marketing campaign, which to my knowledge they have built up without the input of anyone actually on the ground in the industry – certainly that is the word on the street; but I could be completely wrong here. Best we wait till it comes out to make any comment.
You can download the Tropical North Queensland full marketing campaign here.
Incidentally, for those that are up in arms about the wet t-shirt shots from the Wool Shed – I think you need to go there, it does get worse!! (or more fun depending on you take on life).
