About Dan Roberts
Daniel Roberts (Dan) is the Managing Director of Xebidy bringing over 15 years experience in tourism and the web to any project. Dan started in the tourism industry as General Manager of Outside Adventure Exchange (a chain of three travel equipment retail stores and traveller meeting places in Sydney, Auckland and Cairns).
Dan became General Manager of Kiwi Experience from 1995 to 1999, which along with Oz Experience was at the forefront of developing the modern backpacking industry in Australia and New Zealand. In 1999 Dan joined Stray Travel based in London as Operations Director working alongside Kiwi and Oz Experience founding Director Neil Geddes; an operation which covered Britain, Ireland, West and East Europe as well as Greece and Croatia. Dan was heavily involved in the sale of Kiwi Experience and Oz Experience to publicly listed company Tourism Holdings in 2000, working on behalf of Neil and co-founding Director Mike Warren.
In 2003 Dan took the helm of TravelFAT (now Travelonomy) an Irish technology company specialising in the development of booking engines for the backpacking industry. Dan oversaw three funding rounds from private equity, the AIB Bank and Venture Capital, the final round in 2006 seeing Dan sell his management stake to Eddie Murphy (former founder of leading web development house Labyrinth in Dublin) and EVP Venture Capital.
Dan speaks regularly at conferences on web development and marketing and produces a regular paper on the application of the Internet to tourism as well as a monthly column on Internet trends for M2 Magazine.
Dan is also Managing Editor for the travel online community Travel Generation, Vice-Chair for the NZ Backpacking, Youth and Adventure Tourism Association, is a Travel Insights 100 Travel Expert, and heads up the small South Inc. Southern Lakes Business Incubator.
