As an experiment I bought a brand new domain 3 months ago (http://www.australian-bus-tours.com/), paid for $300 worth of text links and put up one simple page of 22 words.

This latest update has taken it from pr0 to pr5

From here to actually get well ranked in the SERPs would merely require some focused on-site optomisation...
